A Seattle-based street artist installing painted wheatpastes of angels in the dark, dank, and discarded parts of the city. Alleyways, underpasses, dumpsters… all spaces reimagined with the presence of an angel watching over a location or group of people that others might overlook. These installations seek to capture ancient desires and timeless existential questions human have through the recontextualization of these angels originally found in Renaissance paintings.

Are we alone in this world? Could there be higher powers looking out for us? What does it mean for us to look out for each other? These pieces also ask us to question the notions found within the hierarchies of western belief systems and organized institutions regarding art, beauty, and sacred space.

When I found Raphael in Occidental Park I was elated. I saw it as a sign. I thought about all the things he represented. And was just happy for that hidden, unexpected beauty. I hope someone else who needs a bit of hope or uplifting stumbles upon one of your angels as well.

The Merchant Cafe Angel: it's comforting knowing that there's a symbol of peace a block away from home. And in an area where peace is nearly nonexistent to so many.

This needs to be a campaign to make America about celebrating diversity in its people and land not about money, competitive business, and power.
